New website a coming
A good friend of mine, Marcus Lewis of Variety Studios and VSMarcusLewis is making me a new website. Its going to be much simpler to navigate a whole lot nicer to look at. The link will still be www.matttruiano.com. Hopefully my email will stay the same as well. Until Then I'll be working with Maddy Black from Absolute Blackout in designing some new tshirts. Heres a rough of the party shirts.

News and updates
A few weekends ago I attended/worked at Inked Out New Jersey tattoo convention. I've worked conventions before, but this one brought a whole new level of satisfaction. Previous conventions were lesser known with tattooers of mediocre to subpar capabilities. Inked Out NJ was booth after booth of extremely talented artists and old timers who have been in the business since the 40's. I made a few new friends, and some good connections. Paul Gambino, editor of Skin And Ink Magazine, approached me before the doors opened and asked me to tattoo him as well as talked about putting me and my shop in the magazine. It was a great experience, but the beginning of hopefully greater experiences. Starting Jan 2012 I will be traveling a lot. Miami, DC, Philly, Mass, just to name a few. I'll keep updates on my travels. And if you are in the areas I'll be, send me an email at matt@matttruiano.com to book an appointment.

Some recent covers
I've been overwhelmingly busy with paintings, tattoos and everything else in between. So far everything is landing on time. Here are the last 2 book covers I just finished. The first one I used our shop helper Amanda to model for the bloody vampire holding the apple. She was wearing vampire fangs. We just forgot they were in and didn't shoot anything with them showing.

Ignorance
Some guy was ranting on a post about how he thinks people with tattoos are hillbillies and low lifes. I couldn't help but respond:
The fact of the matter is that tattooing is becoming a mainstream part of society and whether or not you like it, its not going away. So instead of discriminating on what other people look like, worry about your own problems. Tattoo artists make a very good living and rely on those who appreciate the art. If you don't like it, so be it. But don't be an asshole about it. You're only making yourself look bad.
What would you have said?

One man's trash...
So after wrapping my nephew's birthday gift last month, I was about to throw out the tubing that the wrapping paper was supported by when I realized it wasn't in fact a cardboard tube at all. It was rolled up recycled paper much like a brown paper bag. With a slightly rougher texture, it accepts colored pencil real nicely. So I cut it up into a bunch of small sheets and began doodling. Here are the first 2 drawings. I'd like to credit Jime Litwalk for the body reference for the bride drawing.

In between things
I sent my first painting down to Georgia for Ink 4 Pink's Sideshow Heroes show which will be on June Second (top photo). My Painting for the VCS Gay pride show officially got accepted (middle photo). Now as I'm waiting for the first layer of oils to dry on my Cider Mil Vampire book cover, I drew this lovely girl before going to bed (bottom photo).

Couldn't Resist
I know I said it would be a while before I post another drawing. But I finished my VCS painting and am waiting on a few things to start the next project. So what better way to kill some time than to DRAW!

Contemplation
I've got a lot of work to in a little amount of time. Some events and deadlines are coming up quick so this will probably be the last doodle for a little while of these girls. Some of them might turn into full color paintings for the upcoming events which will be:
Ink 4 Pink: June 2 at Grave Yard Tavern, Atlanta, GA
VCS Gay Pride Rockland: June 5 at Rockland Center for The Arts, West Nyack, NY
Ink 4 Pink: Sept 8, at Grave Yard Tavern, Atlanta, GA

How many licks
Had some time to kill tonight after coming home from the shop. I've been working on a painting of my lovely fiance but it's taking a long time for me to bring it to a completed piece. Working in oils is a painful process for me. So in the meantime, while I wait for layers to dry, I sketched this lolly girl.
New Machines.
So I ordered some FK Irons and I finally got them. I was so excited to use these machines because a lot of the tattooers I look up to and get inspiration from use this machines. I was like a little child and got in my head that these machines were magic makers. I finally got to use them amd sadly I was a little disappointed. I bought a liner and a color packer. Both have a much shorter throw than I'm used to and my coloring machine kept shorting out with a standard clip cord. After a few tattoos I switched over to RCA clip cords, adjusted my contact screw a hair on my liner. This seems to have helped a little but I still think for the amount of money these machines cost, you shouldn't have any problems what soever.
